Plot 5/5
I gave the plot a five out of five. I love the whole concept of a witch and a witch hunter kind of playing with each other, but then ending up having some feelings for each other. Both characters were very dynamic and I found their banter to be a lot of fun. The overall idea of the book was always the main focus, and it never felt confusing or like the plot was starting to change too much from the original goal. This book did not end the way I expected it to at all! Which I really loved. I hate when the book feels too predictable, and this was definitely not one of those.
Structure 5/5
I also gave it a five out of five for the structure. As I touched on before in my plot explanation, I feel that overall, this book was written very well, and everything felt very organic. I felt like it was consistently at a very good pace, although I did feel a little bored at the beginning. I think that’s just a personal thing for me. Whenever I start a book, it’s a little hard for me to be fully immersed. However, about halfway through the book, I COULD NOT put it down! This book was ADDICTING, and I really haven’t experienced that too often.
Characters 5/5
Now, I know I’ve given the last two sections five out of five, but honestly, the characters are really where this book shines! Both of them felt so real and relatable, even though what was happening was very fantastical. I was equally obsessed with Gideon and Rune the whole time, and I learned to really like Alex and Verity as well. For a book to give me more side characters that I really cared about is very impressive. I also really wanted to know everything and anything about both of them, which was exciting to me.
Feeling 3/5
I gave the feelings a three out of five, mostly because I felt the trauma was definitely touched on, especially at the end, but it was never hammered down. I appreciated that since I feel this book is meant for teens, so I think the amount of time spent on intense backstory was perfect for the age range.
Spice 1/5
There were probably about two chapters that had some very light, suggestive themes. I would still consider this pretty appropriate for a younger audience, but maybe more teen than younger. There aren’t many explicit explanations, but there are sexual scenarios.
Overall medium 5/5
I had so much fun reading this book! It was SO good! The ending was absolutely insane and I honestly wasn’t expecting half of the things that happened. This book was anything but predictable. I am so excited to get my hands on the next one because i’m DYING to know what’s next!
