Overall Non-Biased
Overall Vibes
Tate had been best friends with Jared when they were kids, so it was weird when he did a complete 180 and started hating her. He became her biggest bully and made her high school life miserable. After spending a year abroad, she decides she won’t put up with it anymore. It’s time to fight back.
Plot 4/5
For the plot of this book, I gave it a four out of five. It was very consistent all the way through, but I felt it was a little bit basic. I think part of my problem was I was expecting it to be more like the Devil’s Night series, even though that’s not what this book is. It is more just a romance than a dark romance; it was pretty consistent all the way through. It was exactly what it said it was: a bully love story. I did enjoy the premise, but towards the end, I found myself wanting more from the book.
Structure 5/5
For the structure, I gave it a five out of five. Like I said with my plot analysis, it was pretty consistent all the way through. I felt that the way things happened was timed appropriately, and it didn’t feel rushed or like it was dragging on. For what this book is, it stayed very true to that the whole time, and I didn’t seem to mess around with the whole concept at all.
Characters 4/5
As for the characters, I really enjoyed Jared. I have a thing for the cocky racers, and I was very pleased to find out that this book includes a lot of racing. It also includes a lot of talk about working on cars, which is something I personally really enjoy. I thought Tate was very interesting, and I did really like her towards the beginning. I just felt her character development was a little bit stale towards the end. Whereas Jared seemed to have all these things he was really into and had more dynamic interactions with other characters. Tate seemed a little basic to me. I know we did learn about things she liked. I just felt even though this book was in Tates perspective, the focus was mostly on Jared.
Feeling 2/5
The feelings in this book didn’t hit too hard for me. I know the bullying Tate experienced was very hurtful, but I feel we didn’t really get much impact from it. We didn’t see her going through that much bullying. We heard more about it than actually being present for it. I also felt she held her own through most of the book after she came back from France, so I definitely didn’t pity her. I mostly felt the feelings for Jared. Once he shared his backstory a little more, I empathized with him.
Spice 2/5
The spice in this book was much more minimal than I thought it would be. There were maybe a few chapters where spice occurred, but not until close to the end. If you are looking for spicey, I would probably not recommend this; it was pretty mild.
Overall Non- Biased 4/5
Overall, I thought it was a fun read. I LOVED the car and racing scene and am very excited to continue reading the series. I think if you are looking for a more banter-focused romance with racing as a focus and very minimal triggers and spice, this would be a good read!
Overall Vibes 3.5/5
As for my more biased opinion, I think I was expecting a dark romance rather than just romance. I was expecting a lot more spice and angst than what was in this book. I’m very much looking forward to reading more of these, but that’s solely because I love cars and the car scene.
